BIG WRITE
Big Write and VCOP have started with a bang. The children have been working extremely hard on their writing skills; looking for any opportunity to up-level and improve their writing. Remember to search high and low for incredible wow words and ideas to use in your writing. So far, only a few children have added words to our vocabulary wall so there is plenty of space left for more. Here are some pieces of writing from a number of children who visited the office last week to share their amazing work. Our writing topic was 'Should people be fined for not recycling?' We hope you enjoy the writing.

LITERACY PRO
What a fantastic start to the year we are having with regards to Literacy Pro. In a little over one week, the children in Room 17 have read over one million words! The Harry Potter novels seem to be among the favourite reads at the moment along with Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Keep up the great work everyone. I wonder how many words we'll have read by the end of the term?
STUDENT COUNCILLORS
Congratulations to Kallaghn and Roshan for being elected as Room 17's Student Councillors for the first semester. I am sure both of you will represent the students well and do a fine job taking on the extra roles and responsibilities that the role requires. Well done."I am grateful that I have been selected as Student Councillor, even though I joined Wattle Grove last year. I am super excited that people have trust in me. I will make sure that I will not lose their trust. I will take every chance to prove my talent as Student Councillor and I am very proud. I will try to prove myself as the best Student Councillor ever." - Roshan

WELCOME BACK
We have had a fantastic start to 2016 and I am pleased with the progress made by all students, even with the heat that we're experiencing at present. Primarily, the first couple of weeks have been (and are) about setting standards, establishing routines and revising previous concepts and skills. By next week we will be increasing the pace and depth of content. It is very pleasing to see so many students accessing and completing the 'Motivational Work.' Additionally, a large number of students have gone about completing tasks on Study Ladder as well as Literacy Pro. Even though we started Literacy Pro yesterday, the students of Room 17 have read just over 400,000 words!!! Yes, that is nearly half a million words in just one day! Keep up the fantastic effort, Room 17.
Aussie Day: Friday, 12th February (this Friday) is Aussie Day at Wattle Grove. Children can come dressed in 'Aussie' style clothes. Please, no thongs, singlets, vests etc. Appropriate footwear and shirts are expected. A gold coin donation is encouraged with all money raised going towards the Yarloop Bush fire Appeal.
