THE OLYMPICS: AROUND THE WORLD

Our Olympics: Around the World Project has begun therefore, Motivational Work for Week 7 and 8 will be on hold whilst the children are completing the activities for this project. Spelling and nightly reading activities will still continue until the end of term. Ideally, students should be doing a little bit of the project every night and sticking to their timetable.
To help you out, Miss List has created a website where you can access the project along with resources and ideas. You can find the link here: Olympics Project

Happy researching.

OUR CANTEEN NEEDS YOU

Canteen volunteer levels are at critical level and there is currently the risk of closing down the canteen. There have been days where the canteen has been staffed by one or two people to cater for the hundreds of children who order their food through the canteen on Wednesday and Thursday. Volunteering for your school in any way, shape or form really does make all the difference. If you can make the time to volunteer, please sign the sheet on our classroom door or see Suzette. You'll be able to find her in the canteen or around the school. Hopefully, with your support, our canteen can survive.

REACH FOR THE TOP

Room 17, are you ready for our assembly item?
Make sure you listen and learn the words to the song. You should all have the lyrics so now is the time to memorise the tune and the words, ready for next week. Go for gold!

NAIDOC INCURSION

The NAIDOC incursion, held in Week 3 of this term, was a hit with the children from Room 17. We participated in some story telling activities and learnt about the importance of totems in the Noongar custom. The children found out about how every little creature, plant and animal plays a pivotal role in the environment and the reason why we must care for all creatures, great and small. The incursion was wrapped up with a dance about the 'Willy Wagtail.'

"I learnt that the dots on the hand resemble friendships for life. We each put dots on our friend's hands. It was a nice activity and good to learn about." - Kya

"Did you know that the sparkle in your eye represents the stars in our Milky Way. We have the sparkle in our eye to remind us that there are totems in this world (like the frog, birds, trees and insects) that we need to care for. Everyone has a different totem." - Mitchell.

WELCOME MISS LIST

Hi all,

My name is Jessie List and I’m a 4th year prac student from the University of Notre Dame who will be in Room 17 for the remainder of the term.

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know each student in the class and am looking forward to learning more about them.  I’m also thrilled to have the opportunity to teach the students throughout the term.

I am incredibly excited to be a part of all the wonderful events that are taking place at the school and in class this term and I’m very fortunate to have been placed in a wonderful school like Wattle Grove.

I look forward to meeting you all and have a lovely week!

Best wishes,
Miss List
